No Sacrifices, Just Committed!

A Walk to Start the Day

Posted on | September 26, 2008 |

We enjoy going for walks in our neighborhood. As far as country roads go, it’s pretty peaceful. On an occasion, we will see a bulldozer being driven down the road, horses and cows being moved to a new grazing location, and cyclists spinning their wheels on a get-away bike ride because the roads are varied enough to provide a great cycling as well as running experience and workout.

Our school day starts with an early morning walk after breakfast. The weather has cooled enough (but is still hot) where we don’t have to hit the road at the crack of dawn to beat the heat. Our walks provide an opportunity for us to share anything and everything the children want to talk about. Today, they told me about a poem they learned in their study of trains they are doing when Mommy attends Bible study. I am going to share it with you because I want you to also have it running through your head (non-stop) all weekend. Even now, I can’t get it out of my head.

A Peanut
A peanut sat on the railroad track,
It’s heart was all a-flutter-
Choo-choo train
Comes round the bend,
Toot toot!
Peanut butter!

It’s cute, but I would like to think of something else now.

I purposely left the stroller and wagon at home because I like the children to walk, get some exercise, and as you see, they find a little bit of everything to touch, pick up (stuffed animal came from home), and sometimes bring home. I think I will also require them to wear clothing with no pockets when we go on our walks. I’m just kidding. We need more rocks to go with the ones we have already collected and one can never have too many peacock feathers. Anyway, every mom knows that children don’t need pockets to collect and bring things home.

We have to pitstop at this bridge on our way out and on our way back home because everyone needs to throw a few rocks. There is actually a car that is submerged in this pond. I can’t imagine how in the world it got there, but I’m sure someone is telling a great story to all of his friends.

Getting to enjoy a little of God’s beauty work is what also makes these walks so special. We can see trees and open fields as far as our eyes can see and in the distance the beautiful Sutter Buttes.

Hmmm…Can you guess what this is? I guess He does have a sense of humor because this is just gross!

This tractor sign tells us it’s time to turn around and head back home. When we go on our family runs, this sign is our one mile marker and on those days, it tells me to, “keep going. You can do it because you’re (pant, pant) almost home.” I like the casual message it’s sending today.
