Tot School #1 - A Peak into Our Week

Posted on | September 28, 2008 |

Tot School    Our summer was filled with lots of outdoor fun, laziness, and little if no scheduling. As a result, we have spent the last few weeks cleaning, organizing, and scheduling (Mommy) to get our lives back to “normal” and ready to start the new school year.

This is the first year I have to file an affidavit for my oldest son, so I have been preoccupied with that preparation. Regular lessons and activities have been planed for our older two children and I planned to mostly read, introduce the alphabet and some numbers, and allow Schubaboobaly to “hang out” with his brother and sister while they studied. Oh the fun! I was thinking the same thing. I’m sure it would be fun, but he is missing a wonderful opportunity to learn more than what would “rub off” on him.

I’ve have been enjoying reading Love’s School and saw that she mentioned her daughter’s participation in Tot School. After reading through some of the participating blogs, I decided that I needed to provide more for Schubaboobaly this school year. It will also be great accountability for Mommy. So, we will begin our full participation next week. He is so excited and doesn’t even know about it.

I spent this weekend going through the children’s playroom cleaning up and also looking for puzzles, learning tools, etc. that I could use for Tot School. As you can see, I found gold, but I encourage you to never let this happen to your puzzle pieces. Right now, I have my older two sorting/matching the pieces with the right puzzles and putting them together.

One of the reasons for this blog is to record our daily/weekly homeshool journey. On occasion, I will provide a link to our ascension report or a post for more details regarding our activities, but you will be able to see specific Tot School activities here, every Sunday. This will reduce repeat posts.

A Peak into Our Week…reveals our participation in Clean Up the World Weekend. Our weekend was so busy, that our clean-up was done later in the week. We did decide that we will pick-up trash once a week when we go for our morning walks.

He started learning the letter A and his pronunciation was as good as any 22 month old. We will continue next week with the same letter and include more activities to reinforce what he is learning. The highlight of the week was probably the new crayon rocks. They are a little easier to use because they fit right into his little hands and the soy-base allows them to glide over the paper more smoothly. These are now Schubaboobaly’s crayon preference. He didn’t even try to eat them.
