I Have Eyes In the Back of My Head

Every once in a while, it is fun to walk backwards, which is what they decided to do this morning. Personally, I like to see where I’m going especially when it’s down a road on which cars travel. While they walked backwards, I watched for cars. I guess that is why they have a Mommy. When they reached to top of the hill, they wanted to continue walking backwards down the other side. I asked them not to because I could see children rolling backwards down the hill. I didn’t think that was a good idea. I guess that is why they have a Mommy.

We have oak trees around our house. Some of the limbs dangle over our roof and every once in a while, I hear acorns rolling over the tiles and falling to the ground. It was a concerning sounds until I realized what it was. Fortunately, no one has been hit by a falling acorn. What are the odds that will happen? During this time of year, our yard is littered with acorns (where are the squirrels?) and I find batches of them gathered outside and also inside of the house. You see, the children collect the acorns and, although they have been warned, store them in the house like squirrels. Many of those acorns come from the bounty they find on our walks. I guess the difference is that get to pick the acorns off of the trees rather than pick them off of the ground.

These came home with us, but they didn’t make it past the threshold of the front door. A few of them were thrown into the creek when we ran out of rocks.

They found rocks they used as weights to strengthen their arms. These were also later tossed into the creek. The thrill was a little more than what the smaller rocks and pebbles bring. The next thing I know, they may request to bring the wagon so we can collect little boulders to throw in the creek. Imagine that splash.

I promised a picture of the car that someone either drove in, tossed in or creatively placed into the creek. I may inquire from the “town historian” to learn the story. Hmm…maybe it will be more interesting if I may something up. I think I just came up with a creative writing project for the children. Oh, I love these morning walks.

This is the beauty of the Sutter Buttes.

Sometimes simply taking a walk with your children can teach you so very much.
